5 Questions with Christina Rocks

Nyhus is so excited to welcome our new Account Manager, Christina Rocks! Learn more about her favorite outdoor activities and her proudest career moment.

What is your favorite thing about working in the PR/PA industry?

My favorite thing about working in the PR/PA industry is the connections we get to make across incredible organizations in various sectors. There is interesting, exciting work happening in many different pockets of our community and I like being able to both dive in to different areas while keeping a birds eye view of how they all connect.

What is your proudest career moment?

I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing teams setting and achieving big, visionary goals. I think my proudest career moment is submitting my final report while working at the State Department of Health. This report helped shaped the Crisis Standards of Care plan for the state of Washington and it represented over nine months of work, and hundreds of conversations with people in Washington who despite geographic, economic, ideological or any other differences all want to live in safe, healthy and equitable communities where their loved ones can thrive.

How do you see the public affairs/PR landscape changing in the next few years?

My hope is that the industry evolves and addresses systemic racism and other forms of oppression inherent in our industry and others. As public affairs/public relations professionals, we are uniquely positioned to lead adoption of best practices.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I love being active, especially outside and especially in the water. We’re so lucky to have so many beautiful bodies of water in the Pacific Northwest and I swim outside year-round (I know – it *is* so cold!). A great Saturday or Sunday for me is hopping in the car with a friend and a great playlist or podcast to adventure out on a hike, swim, or in the winter, cross country ski.

What was your New Year’s resolution?

I don’t make New Years resolutions, but I set goals around my birthday (in August) for the coming year. This year I have a list of traditional Italian recipes I want to conquer. I’m half Italian and cooking is one of the ways I feel close to my family regardless of the miles between us.
