Amy is a seasoned communications strategist with a passion for solving clients’ most challenging communications issues. Her expertise includes external and internal communications, crisis and issue management, thought leadership and media relations.

Amy has more than 20 years of professional experience in public relations, strategic communications, journalism and academia. As a journalist, she reported on health care policy for American Medical News and Health News Daily and covered the implementation of the Affordable Care Act for The Seattle Times.

As director of the Nyhus health + wellness practice, Amy brings an in-depth understanding of the health care ecosystem and a desire to help clients use communications to drive positive change. Her current and past clients include hospitals and health care systems, providers specializing in cancer treatment, mental health and fertility services, a Fortune 500 health insurance company and a state medical association

A Minnesota native, Amy received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Carleton College and a master’s degree in health journalism, with a minor in bioethics, from the University of Minnesota. Her academic writing has appeared in the Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics, Bioethics and Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics.

Amy is a lifelong student of Japanese language and culture. She lived in Japan for three years, including a year of high school in Akita Prefecture. Her first job after college was with the Japan Exchange & Teaching Program in beautiful Okinawa.

Outside of Nyhus, Amy can often be found spending time with her niece and nephew, enjoying the pool at her local YMCA or searching for another great podcast.
