Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Month

Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Month

Asian American and Pacific Islander Month is an opportunity to celebrate the AAPI community, honor the cultures, traditions and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States and have conversations about racism and discrimination that still impact these communities today.

With the rise in xenophobia, anti-Asian sentiment and hate crimes in the past two years, it is critical that we move beyond statements and take concrete actions to address Asian hate. This includes telling Asian stories in a responsible manner, educating ourselves and others on AAPI history and speaking up against injustice. Acknowledging where we are as a community and working together to take action in support of the AAPI community will help safeguard a more equitable future.

Nyhus acknowledges that this conversation must be sustained beyond the month of May. One way we commit to keeping the conversation going is by supporting local Asian-owned businesses by making purchases, writing online reviews and recommending them to our networks (check out our social media for more ideas!). We invite you to join us and have included a few local businesses below. This is not an exhaustive list so we encourage you to support these and others throughout the year.

Seattle Area Asian-Owned Businesses and Attractions
