Turning Neighbors into Advocates

Local challenges demanding local strategies

Project Summary

When Stanford Hotels wanted to build a fifty story building in the heart of Seattle, Nyhus was brought on to assist with turning their vision into an approved design.

CLIENT:
Stanford Hotels

TEAM:
Public Affairs

IMPACT:
Used a local touch to ensure a key development opportunity was met with widespread, timely approval.

Challenge

Stanford Hotels was able to rely on Nyhus’ established urban network and expertise navigating the city’s design review process. Our agency combined an approach designed to bring in strategic government support, while also reaching out to the community through targeted outreach, letter writing and neighborhood block meets. This method built a robust base of support, driving the project through the required approval process in an efficient and timely fashion.

Results

  • Nyhus garnered strong support for the project, which culminated with a majority of those in attendance at the public design review leaning heavily in favor of permit approval for Stanford Hotels.
  • The City of Seattle granted the project a Master Use Permit after only a single meeting, saving the client valuable time and resources.
Stanford Hotels chose Nyhus to recruit government support for the land use development of a new 50-story Seattle skyscraper.
